The Mission of Phenix City Intermediate School is to foster academic excellence, self-worth, personal responsibility, and a desire to learn in our students. We will do this by providing a challenging curriculum taught by a competent, caring staff using current technology in a safe and stimulating environment with parental and community support.
Phenix City Intermediate School serves all sixth and seventh grade students in the Phenix City School System. The campus is located on a beautifully landscaped forty-four acre pecan orchard, which includes a regulation size track, gymnasium, nature walk, outdoor classroom, greenhouse, and butterfly garden. According to the 1995 census records, Phenix City's population is 28,924. Built in 1961, the campus was originally constructed to meet the needs of Phenix City's high school programs.
Currently there are 54 certified personnel employed at Phenix City Intermediate School. This includes three administrators, two counselors, one media specialist, four physical education teachers, one band director, six special education teachers, one gifted education teacher, a reading specialist, a math specialist, and thirty-four classroom teachers.
Phenix City Intermediate School is active in partnership with CB&T Russell County, Alabama Power, Chick-Fil-A, Bruster's Ice Cream and Coca Cola. These partners always accept our request for assistance.
Phenix City Intermediate School participates in a number of programs designed to provide a comprehensive, well-rounded education for all of our children. In 1999-2000, PCIS was selected by the state as a Literacy Demonstration Site as part of the Alabama Reading Initiative. The Center for Environmental Studies selected our school for development of the BEST Environmental Program in Alabama's public elementary schools. Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks recognized Phenix City Middle School for developing ENVIRONET, one of the nation's top three environmental programs in the elementary school division. The National Science Teachers Association and NASA selected PCIS to be a NASA Explorer School in 2003. Currently PCIS is involved in the TEAM Math Program and AMSTI Program in cooperation with Auburn University and Tuskegee University.
