Theresa Moore, mother-in-law of 7th grade PCIS teacher Jessica Moore, visited Mrs. Moore's seventh grade English classes Friday to help review the four modes of writing in an interesting way, while pulling in some cross-curriculum information. The day was called "Music in Writing."

Mrs. Moore played the banjo and the dulcimer for the students. She told them about the history of the instruments. She then discussed how they were made, how the instruments were used to create original music that would then be accompanied by an original piece of writing that people turned into a "song." She discussed beats and rhythm, and she gave the students an opportunity to play a limber toy (a dancing toy made out of wood) that they could use to keep the beat as she played the dulcimer.
At the end of her playing, the students drew a prompt from a bucket which focused on music. They had to distinguish the mode of writing of the prompt and then complete an essay from the prompt.
